Let’s go over hay fever (花粉症) for this post. I think most people living in Japan know someone who is or is suffering from hay fever. Even though it is extremely common in Japan, it is sometimes hard to explain this tragic seasonal situation in English.
Let’s begin by explaining the causes of hay fever. The pollen from the cypress and cedar trees spreads throughout Japan from February through April.
To simplify it, we can say:
The pollen from the cypress and cedar trees causes hay fever.
Now, we have a wide range of symptoms such as runny nose, sore throat, itchy eyes, and in some serious cases, voice loss.

Hay fever causes a runny nose, itchy eyes, and many other things.
