(English column) Mansion vs マンション

Hello blog readers,

This is Joel again, and for this blog entry, let’s go over common Japanese words that are misused when used in English.

This time, let’s go over the word mansion (マンション.)

This word is very common in Japan, but the meaning in Japanese and English is very different. A mansion in English means a really big house, usually having a total of 10 to 12 rooms.

So, how do we say マンション in English? I think one of the best ways is to use the word condominium or condominium apartment.

Example:

I live in a condominium.

I hope this helps!
